Mato Grosso insulin transition policy
Overview
Health authorities in the Mato Grosso region have begun implementing a transition from NPH insulin to glargine insulin for specific patient populations. This initiative follows national guidelines to provide more stable glycemic control through long-acting insulin.
In Cuiabá, the Municipal Health Secretariat started transitioning patients within Family Health Units, targeting children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 with Type 1 Diabetes, as well as individuals aged 70 or older with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. The process requires individualized clinical evaluations and prescriptions to ensure safety.
Following this, Várzea Grande also began distributing glargine insulin through the Unified Health System (SUS). The program in Várzea Grande maintains similar eligibility criteria and provides patients with reusable application pens, needles, and administration guidance to assist with the transition.
