Matteo Berrettini tennis tournament progression

Overview

Matteo Berrettini’s recent tournament performances have seen a shift from early elimination to a comeback victory. In Tokyo at the ATP 500 tournament, Berrettini was eliminated in the second round after losing to Adolfo Daniel Vallejo with a score of 7-6(6), 6-1.

Following that loss, Berrettini moved to the Shanghai Masters 1000, where he secured a second-round advancement. After losing the first set in a tie-break to Aleksandar Kovacevic, Berrettini won the match 6-1, 6-4, utilizing 23 aces to secure the comeback. During the match, he won 91% of his first-serve points and prevented Kovacevic from earning any break points in the latter stages.

Reflecting on the victory, Berrettini expressed pride in his resilience, stating, ‘I did not give up, I fought and I kept playing – that is exactly the reaction I wanted.’ He is scheduled to face the 16th seed, Brandon Nakashima, in the next round. Unlike Berrettini, Nakashima enters the match having received a first-round bye.
