Matthew McConaughey Yellowstone spin-off discussions

Actor Matthew McConaughey has addressed long-standing rumors regarding his involvement in a ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off series. While McConaughey confirmed he and creator Taylor Sheridan are in active discussions about potential projects, he noted that “nothing’s real yet” and nothing has been officially finalized.

McConaughey indicated that his existing deal with Paramount could potentially facilitate a new series within the franchise. However, Sheridan has clarified that the specific rumored spin-off titled ‘6666’ will not move forward. During an appearance on the ‘Rodeo Time’ podcast, Sheridan officially confirmed the cancellation of the project, which was intended to focus on characters Jimmy and Walker at the Four Sixes Ranch.

Sheridan explained that because he and his investment group own the real-life ranch, he refuses to “fictionalize” the property or “trivialize” the lives and traditions of the people who work there. He expressed a desire to protect the legacy of the ranch and respect the real cowboys and families residing there. Regarding the character Jimmy, Sheridan noted that his arc at the ranch felt complete within the original series, describing the existing footage as a “perfect little movie.”

Despite the cancellation of ‘6666’, Sheridan remains active in the franchise, and McConaughey continues to engage in discussions regarding other potential collaborations within the expanding universe.
