Mawlid al-Nabi commemorations in Yemen
Overview
Yemen observed Mawlid al-Nabi, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, through various religious and political commemorations across the country.
In Saada, religious scholars and officials held meetings to discuss the spiritual significance of the occasion. During these gatherings, speakers condemned perceived insults toward the Quran and called for national unity. In Sanaa, the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Water held an event where officials framed the observance as a milestone to renew loyalty to the Prophet’s teachings and pledged to improve service delivery for the population.
Following these events, the Ministry of Finance and the Tax and Customs Authority also held ceremonies to mark the occasion. Minister of Finance Abduljabbar Ahmed used the commemoration to instruct officials to expedite salary payments for government employees, aiming for distribution within two days to coincide with the celebrations. He also encouraged participation in a central festival planned for Al-Sabeen Square in Sanaa.
In Al-Mahwit, local schools expanded the scope of the observances by organizing student exhibitions and activities focused on religious and cultural education to mark the Prophet's birthday.
