Medical emergencies at Italian coastal locations

Overview

Two separate incidents of sudden medical emergencies involving individuals swimming in Italian coastal areas have been reported.

In mid-August, a 65-year-old cardiologist and military doctor, Domenico Molinaro, died at Serapo Beach in Gaeta after collapsing in the water. Despite resuscitation attempts by bystanders and paramedics, he could not be revived. Carabinieri investigated the circumstances of the collapse.

In mid-September, a 62-year-old tourist from Padova died on the island of Marettimo after a medical emergency while swimming. Emergency efforts involved the Coast Guard, local health centers, and 118 services, but the man passed away on site. The public prosecutor was notified of the incident.
