Medical outreach initiatives in Sinaloa

In August 2026, a series of free medical and social service initiatives were organized in Sinaloa, Mexico. The Mazatlán municipal government, in coordination with the Dr. Vagón health train from Fundación Grupo México, scheduled comprehensive healthcare services at the Santa Elena railway station from August 17 to 21. These services include general medicine, dentistry, specialized consultations, and the distribution of medications and eyeglasses. Additionally, the Mazatlán Red Cross announced outreach programs in rural and peripheral areas, such as the Urías neighborhood, providing medical, legal, and veterinary assistance.

The scope of the medical campaign was further detailed as a collaboration between the Sinaloa Ministry of Health and the Dr. Vagón Foundation of Ferromex. Known as ‘El Tren de la Salud’ (The Health Train), the initiative was set to run from August 17 through September 4, extending services beyond Mazatlán to Guasave and El Fuerte. The program offers a wide range of specialties, including gynecology, pediatrics, and rehabilitation, alongside diagnostic studies like mammographies and X-rays. Specific community actions also included pterygium surgeries in Mazatlán and pet sterilization efforts in El Fuerte.

Parallel social efforts in the region include the distribution of free textbooks by the Secretary of Public Education and Culture, with over 45 percent already delivered to schools. Furthermore, the DIF Sinaloa system is conducting medical evaluations for women seeking free breast reconstruction surgeries and providing food assistance to fishing families in Eldorado and Salvador Alvarado. In Cuitláhuac, dental health jornadas have been organized to provide oral care to families.
