Medical repatriation of Denis Vejzović
Overview
Denis Vejzović, a 38-year-old Croatian man living in Ireland, entered a coma in July 2026 following a ruptured brain aneurysm. While being treated at a hospital in Cork, medical professionals indicated that continued life-sustaining treatment might lack medical justification and suggested they could disconnect him without family consent.
In response, Vejzović’s family launched a public appeal and a GoFundMe campaign to fund a potential transfer to another hospital and to seek a second medical opinion. They also engaged the Croatian Ministry of Health and the Croatian embassy in Ireland for assistance.
Following the humanitarian campaign and coordination between the Croatian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Vejzović was successfully repatriated to Croatia via a special medical flight. He is currently receiving intensive care at KBC Rebro in Zagreb.
