Medicinal cannabis professionalization in Tierra del Fuego

Overview

Tierra del Fuego has initiated efforts to professionalize its medicinal cannabis sector by establishing standardized production and manufacturing protocols.

The process began with the selection of eight growers to serve as pilot cases. This initiative, led by the Secretariat of Productive Development and SMEs in coordination with the Ministry of Health, aims to transition from unregulated home production to a system featuring clear labeling, verified compositions, and traceability.

Following this, the province conducted field research across Ushuaia, Tolhuin, and Río Grande. This collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Production and Environment, various universities, and the Federal Investment Council focused on developing a provincial protocol for Good Practices in Medicinal Cannabis Cultivation and Manufacturing. Technical evaluations of local producers indicated a high technical level, providing the data necessary to form the province’s first official regulatory framework for the sector.
