Mediterranean Games athlete performances

The Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, continue to see diverse regional performances across various disciplines.

Serbian competitors have achieved a total of nine medals, including two gold, one silver, and six bronze. Notable successes include Aleksandar Komarov winning gold in Greco-Roman wrestling (up to 97 kg) and bronze medals for Viktor Nemeš in wrestling and Žarko Krajišnik in taekwondo.

Slovenian athletes have secured three bronze medals in cycling, swimming, and bowling. Specifically, Nika Bobnar earned bronze in the cycling time trial, Tina Čelik took bronze in the 100m backstroke, and Urban Hiti secured bronze in bowling. In the water polo competition, the Montenegrin team defeated Slovenia 23:5 to finish first in Group A.

Montenegrin athletes have also added to the medal tally. Marija Vuković won gold in high jump, while Balša Vojinović secured bronze in karate (under 60 kg) after defeating Algeria’s Naïm Rueichi. Other Montenegrin bronze medalists include Gracija Stjepčević in bocce and Bojana Gojković in boxing. In sailing, Milivoj Dukić holds third place in the ILCA-7 category, and javelin thrower Marija Bogavac finished 10th, setting both a personal and national record.

Recent developments for Montenegro include the men’s water polo team advancing to the final after a 15:14 victory over Spain. Đuro Radović and Strahinja Gojković each scored four goals in the match, setting up a final against Italy. In karate, Jovana Damjanović earned a silver medal in the +68 kg category following a 4:3 loss to Portugal’s Ana Rita Ferreira de Oliveira, while Balša Vojinović added a bronze in the men’s 60 kg category.
