A key priority in this acceleration is the identification of alternative land to compensate for approximately 5,096 hectares of forest land expected to be submerged.

The minister has instructed officials to prioritize identifying deemed forest land or land belonging to the Revenue Department, explicitly stating that “residential areas should not be included in these reports.” Officials are currently evaluating potential land in Chamarajanagar, Mandya, and Bengaluru South districts.

Political opposition in Tamil Nadu has intensified. Seeman, leader of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, criticized the Karnataka Chief Minister’s stance, describing it as an “affront to Indian federalism” and urging the central government to deny all technical and environmental clearances. Similarly, Ravi Pachamuthu of the Indian Democratic Party (IDK) has called for an all-party meeting in Tamil Nadu to exert collective pressure on both the central and Karnataka governments to protect the agriculture and drinking water of the Cauvery Delta.
