Actress Melissa Barrera has expressed openness to returning to the ‘Scream’ franchise as Sam Carpenter, but only on the condition that the film rights are transferred away from Spyglass Media Group.
Barrera was dismissed from the series in 2023 following social media posts regarding the conflict in Gaza. At the time of her dismissal, Spyglass Media Group stated they maintain a ‘zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form.’
Barrera indicated that while she maintains affection for the horror series, her relationship with the studio’s leadership is damaged. She stated she would only consider a return if the franchise passed to new owners who would ‘honor Wes Craven’s legacy.’ Following her departure, other figures including Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon also exited the project.
