Memorial for mountaineer Marco Di Marcello

Overview

Marco Di Marcello, a 27-year-old biologist and mountaineer, died on November 3, 2025, after being swept away by an avalanche during an expedition toward the summit of Dolma Khang in Nepal.

Following the recovery and identification of his body in August, his ashes were returned to Italy after cremation in Nepal. In late August, hundreds of people gathered in Teramo for memorial services, including a wake at the Parco della Scienza and a funeral at the Teramo Cathedral. The ceremonies were attended by local officials and expedition leader Tenjing Phurba Sherpa. In accordance with the family’s wishes, attendees wore bright colors to celebrate Di Marcello’s energy rather than observing traditional mourning.
