Mendoza drunk driving legislative reform proposal

Overview

In Mendoza, Deputy María Inés Ramos of the La Libertad Avanza bloc has proposed legislative reforms to address drunk driving. The initiative seeks to amend the Contravencional Code and the Transit Security Law by introducing the ‘Provincial Program for the Prevention of Recidivism in Traffic Infractions due to Positive Alcohol Levels’.

Under this proposal, drivers sanctioned for alcohol consumption—especially repeat offenders—would be required to complete and pass mandatory psychoeducational training to regain driving privileges after a disqualification period. This follows a reported 241% year-on-year increase in alcohol testing in the province during 2024.
