Mental health service developments in Germany

Overview

Mental health service initiatives in German districts have focused on expanding support frameworks for different demographics.

In Märkischer Kreis, the Social Psychiatric Service and Guardianship Authority updated their concept, titled ‘Auf Stärken bauen’ (Building on Strengths). The revised guidelines aim to support individuals with mental illnesses, addiction, and dementia through low-threshold counseling, home visits, and digital consultations to foster independence and social participation.

In Main-Kinzig-Kreis, efforts have expanded toward adolescent prevention through the program ‘Verrückt? Na und! – Seelisch fit in der Schule’. This initiative targets students in grades 8 through 13, helping them and their teachers identify early warning signs of mental crises and develop coping strategies to reduce stigma.
