Meta AI and wearable technology retail demonstrations
Overview
Meta has initiated physical retail experiences to demonstrate its artificial intelligence and wearable technology. In the United States, the company launched ‘Meta Lab’ at select Best Buy locations, offering hands-on demonstrations of Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Meta Quest devices. These boutique spaces allow consumers to test products, including gesture control via the Meta Neural Band.
In Japan, Meta expanded its experiential outreach with a pop-up event in Shibuya, Tokyo, called the ‘Meta AI Convenience Store.’ Designed as ‘the world’s most inconvenient convenience store,’ the event required participants to use the Meta AI app and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to navigate obstacles like unreadable packaging or language barriers through real-time translation and visual identification. Masahiro Ajisawa, Representative Director of Meta Japan, noted that the event aims to demonstrate how AI can “seamlessly support daily life.”
