METLEN gallium plant in Greece
Overview
In late July 2026, METLEN Energy & Metals PLC announced a long‑term off‑take agreement to supply about 25 % of the annual gallium output from its planned Greek production plant to a leading United States technology company. The deal, the first substantial gallium supply contract between a European producer and a U.S. tech firm, is expected to support AI, renewable‑energy, telecoms and defence applications once the plant reaches full capacity of 50 tonnes per year by 2028.
A week later, the Greek government approved a €91.5 million grant and tax incentives for the project, classifying the €340.6 million investment as a Strategic Investment. The support, funded through EU recovery and modernization funds, will finance the integrated bauxite‑gallium‑aluminium production line, research facilities, energy infrastructure, port upgrades and flood‑protection works in Agios Nikolaos, Boeotia.
