Mexican airport passenger traffic and connectivity growth
Overview
Major Mexican airports, specifically Guadalajara International Airport and Mexico City International Airport (AICM), reported significant passenger traffic growth in August 2026. Guadalajara led this recovery with a 10.5% increase in passengers compared to the previous year, driven by a 13.3% rise in international travelers. AICM also saw improvements, handling 4.07 million passengers, a 3.5% year-over-year increase.
Following this growth, the government of Jalisco and Aeroméxico announced expansions to Guadalajara’s international connectivity. Starting in October, new routes will connect Guadalajara to several United States cities, including Salt Lake City, Atlanta, and Washington Dulles. Additionally, a direct route between Guadalajara and Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport is scheduled to begin in April 2027, utilizing Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. These expansions are intended to support tourism, business, and the Mexican diaspora, while Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico continues to invest in increasing capacity at the Guadalajara airport.
