Mexican art, photography, and artisanal exhibitions

Various art exhibitions and programs have been launched or announced across Mexico and the United States, with a particular focus on photography and cultural history.

In Mexico, recent activities include concurrent shows at the Centro de Arte Bernardo Quintana Arrioja in Querétaro, featuring photography by Angy Meré and paintings by Oliver Esquivel. In Guadalajara, the Museo de las Artes (MUSA) introduced an artist-in-residence program and the ‘Los vitalistas’ exhibition. Additionally, the San Lázaro Cultural Space in Mexico City inaugurated ‘Personajes de la cultura’ by Paulina Lavista, which documents influential cultural figures through portraits taken between the late 1960s and late 1980s. The Photography Archive Museum (MAF) in Mexico City is also working to preserve a century of visual memory while integrating emerging photographers and new technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Cultural promotion has expanded to include artisanal crafts through the 37th International Anthropology and History Book Fair (FILAH). Hosted by the Veracruz Ministry of Culture (SECVER) and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), a showcase at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City features products from 18 municipalities. The initiative aims to support producers via fair trade schemes by eliminating intermediaries. Displayed items from the Capital, Huasteca, Totonacapan, and Sotavento regions include pottery, textiles, jewelry, and traditional foods such as vanilla, mole xiqueño, and coffee.

In the United States, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles announced the upcoming bilingual exhibition ‘Instante/revelación: Moments in Mexican Photography.’ Running from September 2026 to January 2027, the exhibition traces social and artistic transformations through the work of thirteen Mexican photographers from the late 1920s to the mid-2010s.
