Mexican electoral legal disputes
Overview
Legal challenges regarding electoral regulations and candidate eligibility have emerged in various Mexican jurisdictions. In Guanajuato, the State Electoral Tribunal overturned inclusion quotas established by the Institute of Elections of the State of Guanajuato (IEEG). These quotas, which mandated candidate nominations from groups such as Afro-Mexicans, indigenous populations, and persons with disabilities, were struck down following challenges by the PAN and Somos parties regarding the proportionality and justification of the affirmative action measures.
In other regions, the Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) ruled that certain individuals were ineligible to lead the PRD in Mexico City because their appointment lacked a legal basis. The court also noted instances of alleged interference by the Morena party. Additionally, the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF upheld the exclusion of a citizen electoral counselor for the National Electoral Institute (INE) in Yucatán after a screening process revealed a violation of requirements due to political party affiliation.
