Mexican National Military Service training

Overview

The National Military Service in Mexico has progressed through various training stages and regional implementations.

In Veracruz, the Batallón de La Boticaria introduced a three-month full-time program called “modalidad encuadrada,” allowing young conscripts to live and train alongside active Mexican Army members. Following this, the second stage of the National Military Service commenced in regions such as Minatitlán, Veracruz, and Cuautla, Morelos.

The “Second Escalón 2026” of the National Military Service (SMN) has now officially commenced across various regions, involving thousands of young conscripts. In Veracruz, the Mexican Navy (Semar) welcomed 45 sailors at the Las Bajadas polygon, while 300 youths began training in Minatitlán. In Tijuana, 342 participants, including nine women, started a three-month program at the 28th Infantry Battalion. Other regional starts include 401 youths in Cuautla, Morelos, 400 in Saltillo, Coahuila, and 321 in Hermosillo, Sonora.

Recent developments in the second stage of the 2026 SMN include the arrival of 45 sailors at the Las Bajadas polygon to focus on naval doctrine and civic values. In Minatitlán, 300 youths began training at the 45th Infantry Battalion, an event attended by local authorities. In Cuautla, Morelos, 401 participants, including five female volunteers, started instruction at the 5th Mechanized Regiment. Additionally, 323 conscripts and five female volunteers began a three-month period at the 40th Infantry Battalion in San Luis Potosí.

The training curriculum includes technical instruction on the functions of the Armed Forces, physical conditioning, first aid, and social service tasks. These programs are designed to foster discipline, civic values, and patriotism, providing a formal link between Mexican youth and military institutions.
