Luis González Placencia, head of ANUIES, noted that while enrollment increased by 18 percent between 2018 and 2026, annual funding has failed to keep pace with the GDP deflator. Leticia Jiménez Zamora, rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero, emphasized that these institutions educate 62 percent of the national student population and generate 90 percent of the country’s scientific, humanistic, and technological research.

Individual institutions have begun requesting specific relief. The Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS) has requested an extraordinary injection of 1.2 to 1.5 billion pesos to stabilize operations, while the Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México (UACM) has demanded certainty regarding the delivery of budgeted federal resources. Beyond financial concerns, the organization has issued an urgent request for government intervention to ensure the physical safety of students following reports of violence and disappearances within university environments.
