Mexican student addiction prevention initiatives

Overview

Health and educational authorities in Mexico have implemented various programs aimed at preventing addiction among students. In Querétaro, the State Council Against Addictions (CECA) launched a digital addiction prevention program targeting over 2,400 student leaders across 61 COBAQ campuses and EMSAD centers. This initiative uses a ‘Peace Clubs’ model to help adolescents recognize risk factors associated with excessive social media and device use, encouraging a balance between screen time and physical or social activities.

Expanding these efforts, authorities in Baja California Sur organized state-wide activities for more than 40,000 students, utilizing sports and arts to promote mental health. Simultaneously, CECA’s ‘Voces del Cambio’ (Voices of Change) workshops in Querétaro have reached over 2,200 participants, including students and parents, to improve communication regarding risk signals and strengthen adolescent decision-making skills.
