Mexican transportation regulatory enforcement
Overview
Transportation authorities in Mexico have taken enforcement actions against various transit providers regarding regulatory violations.
In Jalisco, the Secretariat of Transportation (SETRAN) sanctioned digital platforms Uber, DiDi, and inDrive for providing motorcycle passenger services, which the agency deemed illegal under state law. The crackdown resulted in the impounding of 41 motorcycles and fines for both drivers and the digital platforms. In response, inDrive pledged to remove motorcycle transport options in the region within 24 hours.
In the Valle de Juárez and Riberas del Bravo regions, authorities seized vehicles from concessionaires Grupo Carrera and Star Soluciones en Transporte following unauthorized fare hikes. The companies reportedly increased fares to 20 pesos, exceeding the authorized 12-peso rate. While the companies cited high operating costs, the state government deployed special units to maintain service for commuters during the intervention.
