Mexico 2027 municipal election campaigns

In late July 2026, former Cuautitlán mayor Ariel Juárez announced his intention to run again in the 2027 local elections, accusing the incumbent PRI administration of corruption and extortion and pledging to file formal complaints.

In early August, Ciudad Juárez mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel reiterated his commitment to the 2021 Municipal Development Plan, noting that the city has exited the list of the world’s 25 most violent cities, operates about 3,000 surveillance cameras and recorded its lowest homicide count in 13 years. He reported a municipal budget rise from roughly 5.9 billion to over 10.8 billion pesos without new debt, enabling expanded infrastructure, education, sports facilities and new electrical substations. Meetings with the local Coparmex chapter underscored a collaborative approach to economic development, including a proposed Economic Development Center subject to rent and public‑contracting rules.

At the same time, PAN official Carlos Ernesto Ortiz Villegas entered the party’s internal selection process for the 2027 mayoral race, adding further competition.
