Mexico high-technology export growth
Overview
In the first half of 2026, Mexico’s AI server exports reached approximately $83 billion, overtaking the $75 billion generated by the automotive and auto parts industry. This growth is largely fueled by demand from the United States, which receives roughly 40% of Mexico’s AI server imports. Production is concentrated in Chihuahua and Jalisco, though much of the manufacturing is managed by foreign entities, particularly from Taiwan. National content in these servers remains low, estimated between 3% and 7%, as high-value components are imported from Taiwan, China, South Korea, and Malaysia.
By the second half of 2026, the broader high-technology sector, including computer equipment and electronics, reached $120.54 billion in exports, surpassing the transport equipment manufacturing subsector. Regional data shows significant growth in Jalisco, where electronics drove a 130% annual increase in external sales and where 70% of semiconductor design companies are located. Despite this expansion, challenges persist regarding the integration of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into these production chains; in Nuevo León, studies indicate only 3% of SMEs have integrated technology to improve processes.
