Mexico INE institutional identity rebranding

Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE) has undergone a series of changes to its institutional graphic identity. Initially, the Executive General Board approved a transition from the traditional Mexican pink to a palette of lilac and navy blue. INE President Guadalupe Taddei stated the rebranding was intended to project a “more sober and uniform visual communication” and to prevent confusion between the electoral body and political parties.

Following criticism that the lilac shade resembled colors used by the Mexico City government and the PAZ party, the INE updated its identity manual again. The institute replaced the lilac palette with various shades of gray, including Oxford gray, light gray, medium gray, and warm gray, to reinforce principles of neutrality and impartiality.

On September 25, the INE implemented a mandatory transition to a new palette consisting of gray, beige, white, and black to visually reinforce its role as a neutral electoral referee. During the approval of this modification, Víctor Hugo Carvente Contreras, head of the Internal Control Body, raised concerns regarding the urgency of the session and the potential budgetary impact. He questioned if the transition aligns with principles of austerity and efficiency, noting that the specific costs for replacing institutional goods and materials have not been fully detailed.

Alongside these visual changes, the INE announced the reallocation of approximately 146.4 million pesos in savings from 2026. Executive Director of Administration Liliana Díaz de León noted that these funds will be used to ensure payroll coverage for permanent contract personnel during the final quarter of the year, aiming to maintain institutional operations following budget adjustments by the Chamber of Deputies.
