Mexico judicial and reintegration initiatives

Overview

Mexico has initiated several administrative efforts focused on the legal status and social reintegration of individuals within the justice system.

In August 2026, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) established the ‘Table for Liberty and Access to Justice.’ This task force coordinates federal, state, and penitentiary authorities to identify vulnerable inmates who may be eligible for amnesty, early release, or modified precautionary measures.

Following this, the Mexico City Government Secretariat (SECGOB) launched the ‘Building New Routes’ workshop through the Institute of Social Reintegration (IRS). This psychoeducational program targets adolescents and young adults in contact with the law, aiming to facilitate social and family reintegration through emotional self-regulation and decision-making skills. The initiative operates on a hybrid model involving representatives from 32 entities, with sessions running from August 2026 through February 2027.
