Mexico PACIC basic food basket price monitoring

Overview

Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has been monitoring prices for the 24 essential products in the Package Against Inflation and Scarcity (PACIC) basic food basket.

In late September 2026, monitoring from September 7 to 11 identified a Bodega Aurrera in Puebla as having the lowest national price at 757 pesos, significantly below the federal maximum limit of 910 pesos. During this period, the highest national price was recorded at an H-E-B in León, Guanajuato, at 934.90 pesos.

Subsequent monitoring from September 14 to 18 showed continued price variations across retailers. While specific locations in Puebla, such as Mega Soriana and Walmart, remained below the national average, the cheapest full basket was identified at a Mega Soriana in Acapulco, Guerrero, priced at 739.90 pesos. Profeco noted that because the most affordable costs fluctuate by individual product, no single commercial chain offers the lowest price for every item.
