Mexico Profeco back-to-school fairs expand

Entities: Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) · Profeco (Federal Consumer Protection Agency) · Secretaría de Educación de Tamaulipas · Cámara Nacional de Comercio, Servicios y Turismo de Querétaro (CANACO Querétaro) · Tehuacán

Overview

Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) continued its July‑August rollout of back‑to‑school fairs, a coordinated series of 55 events across the country aimed at easing household budgets for the 2026‑2027 school year.

The fairs, already scheduled in Querétaro (14‑16 Aug) and two sites in Puebla – Plaza de la Democracia (15‑16 Aug) and Parque Juárez in Tehuacán (15‑17 Aug) – will offer discounted school supplies, uniforms, backpacks, footwear and books, with on‑site inspections to enforce promotional offers.

In addition to Profeco’s activities, several state governments are distributing free supply kits. Tamaulipas will provide packages worth 477‑735 pesos per student, while Mexico City’s “Uniformes y Útiles Escolares” program will issue electronic vouchers of 970 pesos for pre‑school children and 1,180 pesos for secondary students.

Local chambers and municipal agencies are also joining the effort. The Chamber of Commerce in Torreón organized a one‑day fair with 10‑30 % discounts and a mobile‑device raffle, and Reynosa’s municipal DIF launched the “Todos Somos Útiles” campaign to collect new or gently used school items for donation.

Newly announced fairs extend the network to Aguascalientes, where a fair runs through 1 August at the Centro de Artes Visuales, and to the Chetumal‑Tulum region, where a “Expo Regreso a Clases” will feature voucher redemption and cultural activities. The events also include free health checks, legal advice and DIY technology workshops. Across the country, the combined fairs, free‑kit distributions, vouchers and community campaigns target millions of families, seeking to reduce the financial burden of the new school cycle while promoting informed consumption and supporting local retailers.
