Mexico’s consumer protection agency, Profeco, released a series of consumer‑protection guidelines in July 2026. On 26 July, the agency issued recommendations for safely using public Wi‑Fi, introducing a traffic‑light rating system that classifies networks by security features and advises users on password handling, avoiding dubious SSIDs, and refraining from online purchases on unsecured connections.

Later the same day, Profeco broadened its consumer‑advice portfolio to cover vacation‑related services. New guidance outlined steps for renting vehicles safely—verifying provider registration, reviewing contract terms, documenting vehicle condition, and reporting incidents promptly. Parallel advice for hotel bookings stressed the need for written confirmations, retention of payment records, and the right to a replacement, re‑programming, or full refund if a reservation is cancelled. The agency also highlighted its mediation tools, Conciliaexpres and Concilianet, and set a one‑year filing deadline for complaints.
