Mexico-Querétaro passenger train construction issues

The construction of the Mexico-Querétaro passenger train has led to various local controversies and administrative negotiations between state and federal authorities.

Initially, attention focused on the renovation of the Bernardo Quintana railway bridge. Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri González addressed public debate regarding the use of maroon paint on the structure, noting that the federal government and the Agrupamiento de Ingenieros ‘Felipe Ángeles’ hold the authority over aesthetic choices. State officials highlighted that their primary role is mitigating mobility issues caused by federal construction, noting that while the state proposed 8 billion pesos for 40 additional works, federal authorities had only approved 28 works at that time.

As the project progressed, the focus shifted toward environmental concerns. Governor Kuri González urged the federal government to prioritize environmental compensation, specifically requesting the protection of existing vegetation and the transplanting of trees where removal is unavoidable. Local officials described recent nighttime tree felling in the Tepe area as ‘penoso’, noting that citizens are demanding the relocation of living organisms rather than simple replanting efforts.
