Mexico security and disarmament initiatives

In late July 2026 the State of Mexico hosted an Inter‑state Coordination Meeting for Peace and Security, gathering governors and security officials from several neighboring states. The meeting highlighted the federal "Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace" program, noting that 2,766 firearms had been exchanged for cash between October 2024 and June 2026, and that the initiative involved over 400,000 citizens in more than a thousand community events.

A week later the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) announced a series of "Diálogos por la Seguridad" in four cities—Tijuana, Guadalajara, Mérida and Monterrey—aimed at shaping a new Security and Peace program. The dialogues will include specialists, academics, civil‑society groups and party militants, with a national seminar in Mexico City scheduled for late August and a formal program presentation set for September 7. The progression shows a move from state‑level coordination and disarmament actions to a nationwide political effort to codify and expand security reforms across Mexico.
