Mexico-South Korea strategic cooperation

Overview

Following a state visit by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Mexico and South Korea have entered a new phase of economic and strategic cooperation. During the Korea-Mexico Business Forum in Mexico City, officials signed several memorandums of understanding to strengthen ties in high-tech sectors.

Key areas of collaboration include the defense and aerospace industries, with intentions to exchange technical knowledge, develop joint projects, and integrate into global supply chains. Specifically, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and POSCO International have partnered with the Mexican Federation of Aerospace Industry (FEMIA) to explore manufacturing opportunities in Mexico and the Latin American market. The partnership also encompasses energy, artificial intelligence, and the cultural sector, leveraging Mexico’s manufacturing role in North America alongside South Korean technological capabilities.
