Mexico youth entrepreneurship policy development

Efforts to support youth entrepreneurship in Mexico have progressed from high-level government dialogue to the launch of specific strategic agendas.

Initially, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Diego Aguerrebere, met with leaders from the Intercamaral Juvenil de Sinaloa to discuss strengthening entrepreneurship through technology, networking, and simplified company registration. During this period, youth representatives at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies also called for greater transparency in public fund auditing and criticized the low percentage of public procurement contracts awarded to new firms.

Subsequently, CONCANACO SERVYTUR México and federal deputy Gabriela Jiménez Godoy launched the “Youth Entrepreneurship: engine of the next generation of employment” agenda. This initiative, presented during the “Voices of the Future” forum, focuses on using artificial intelligence and innovation to reduce inequalities. The agenda seeks to address high rates of labor informality among Mexico’s youth—noted at 58.8%—by removing bureaucratic obstacles, improving training, and increasing access to credit.
