Mexico‑Argentina youth addiction prevention

Overview

In early August 2026, officials in Mexico and Argentina began rolling out new measures aimed at curbing youth gambling and digital‑media addiction. In Baja California, Deputy Daylín García Ruvalcaba introduced a reform to the state Youth Law that would require informational campaigns, workshops, digital resources and family‑guidance programs to protect young people from problem gambling and online betting. At the same time, the Senate of Argentina’s San Luis Province approved a law creating an annual Provincial Week of Prevention, Awareness and Sensitization on Addictions, featuring public‑building illumination, school activities and recognition of civil‑society groups.

Later that day, Argentine authorities expanded the effort. Governor Sergio Ziliotto of La Pampa unveiled a Provincial Emergency Plan in Mental Health and Problematic Consumption, deploying mental‑health professionals, upgrading infrastructure and proposing new legal tools to address substance abuse and digital overuse among youth. A public forum in Mar Chiquita, organized by regional health ministries, also examined the risks of digital gaming and other problematic digital consumptions. Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated regional push to strengthen legislative, educational and health‑service responses to youth addiction across Mexico and Argentina.
