MGC-262 highway infrastructure project in Barão de Cocais
Overview
The Department of Buildings and Roads of Minas Gerais (DER-MG) has completed a R$ 140 million infrastructure project on the MGC-262 highway in Barão de Cocais. The 28.5-kilometer project consists of a 24.6-kilometer connection between Caeté and Barão de Cocais and a 3.9-kilometer bypass.
The new route is designed to divert heavy mining traffic away from the urban perimeter to reduce noise, dust, and accident risks for local residents. Some mining companies have already begun using the bypass to transport goods to distribution centers and the Trindade Mineração territory. Local authorities intend to monitor traffic flow and may implement additional restrictions on heavy vehicles within the city if required.
