MGC party leadership crisis in Côte d’Ivoire

Overview

The Mouvement des générations capables (MGC) in Côte d’Ivoire is facing a significant internal crisis characterized by a wave of high-ranking resignations. Since mid-July, the party has seen over one hundred departures, including the first vice-president, 57 officials from the Abobo 3 regional coordination, and various cabinet members and regional coordinators.

Former vice-presidents Irène Gohourou, Ago Marthe Zadi, Jean-Claude Kouao, and Yves Djédjé have stated their departures were motivated by personal conscience and a misalignment with party values. They explicitly denied rumors of financial misconduct, specifically contesting allegations regarding the misappropriation of 300 million FCFA. They characterized such claims as personal attacks intended to damage their reputations.

In response to the exodus, MGC president Simone Gbagbo is working to reorganize and revitalize the party. She is currently in France to install European representatives for the movement.
