Middle East and international security diplomacy

Diplomatic efforts to address regional instability in the Middle East and international conflicts have intensified through high-level discussions. Egyptian and Russian foreign ministers held talks regarding the war in Ukraine, Black Sea security, and the situation in Gaza, with Egypt emphasizing its role in facilitating a truce.

Following these discussions, the 166th ordinary session of the League of Arab States Council was held in Cairo. The ministerial meeting focused on enhancing joint Arab coordination to counter Israeli violations in occupied Palestinian territories and Iranian interventions perceived as threats to regional stability.

Participants also addressed the protection of international waterways, emphasizing the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, specifically regarding the restoration of the Strait of Hormuz as a safe passage. The session further covered humanitarian and political crises in Sudan, Yemen, and Syria.

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy noted a “real desire and seriousness” to move beyond stating positions toward taking concrete actions. He highlighted a new spirit of cooperation intended to address national security threats through institutional reform and proactive crisis management, including initiatives to document violations in Jerusalem for presentation to the international community.
