Middle East diplomatic de‑escalation

Overview

In July 2026 Egypt and Turkey’s foreign ministers publicly urged a de‑escalation of regional tensions and expressed support for Syrian unity. A few weeks later, Egypt and Jordan intensified diplomatic outreach, holding separate calls with Qatar, Iraq and the U.S. Middle‑East envoy. The officials called for renewed negotiations, implementation of the Trump‑administered Gaza plan to facilitate humanitarian aid, and protection of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. Both sets of statements aimed to curb rising tensions and promote a broader regional security framework involving Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait and other stakeholders.
