Overview

Rail services in Milan have experienced significant disruptions due to separate technical and operational incidents.

On September 9, a power line fault between Milano Greco Pirelli and Porta Garibaldi caused delays for regional, high-speed, and Malpensa Express services. While technicians resolved the fault by 14:00, passengers faced increased travel times of up to 60 minutes.

On September 16, a freight train derailment occurred at the Milano Greco Pirelli station. The train was transporting empty cisterns intended for stabilized acrylonitrile, a highly flammable liquid. Although authorities confirmed the cisterns were empty and no leaks occurred, the NBCR unit and railway police responded to the scene as a precaution. The incident led to the suspension of traffic within the rail node, causing delays and cancellations on Trenord lines serving Como, Lecco, Sondrio, and Ponte San Pietro.
