Minha Casa, Minha Vida irregular property sales

Overview

Authorities in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, have identified irregular attempts to sell Minha Casa, Minha Vida housing units before official key handovers. Specifically, more than ten illegal advertisements were detected for apartments in the Villa Provance development, including units within the Sergipe, Piauí, and Rio Grande do Norte condominiums.

Under the program’s Faixa 1 subsidized tier, selling properties during the 60-month contract period is prohibited. Such unauthorized transactions, including informal receipts or promises of sale, do not constitute a legal transfer of ownership and can lead to the loss of the home and the mandatory return of government subsidies.

While families in the Faixa 1 tier who receive the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) or participate in Bolsa Família are exempt from monthly payments, they must still adhere to all contractual regulations regarding the property.
