Minneapolis downtown shooting

Overview

An active shooter incident at the Loring Towers apartment building in downtown Minneapolis has resulted in at least two deaths and multiple injuries. The shooting occurred near 15 East Grant Street, in close proximity to the Minneapolis Convention Center and the Loring Park neighborhood.

Updated reports indicate that the suspected shooter, who reportedly lived in the building and had been evicted earlier that day, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hennepin Healthcare reported receiving seven patients following the incident; while one patient died at the hospital, the total death toll has risen to at least two.

Among the wounded were three police officers. One officer was shot in the abdomen and underwent surgery, while another sustained a non-life-threatening injury to the leg. All three officers are reported to be in stable condition. At least six other individuals were also injured.

Responding officers reported encountering a haze that significantly limited visibility as they moved toward the upper floors of the building. A large-scale law enforcement response involved the Minneapolis Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, the FBI, and the ATF. Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have addressed the incident, with state public safety teams assisting local agencies. FBI Director Kash Patel stated the bureau would provide all necessary resources. Investigators are currently working to determine the exact motive and circumstances of the attack.

As a precaution, the University of St. Thomas Minneapolis campus was placed on lockdown. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area between 12th Street and Franklin Avenue, and between Hennepin Avenue and Third Avenue South.
