Shyare Andrade returns to Ecuador after pageant success

Overview

The Miss Grand International 2026 pageant concluded in Bangkok, Thailand, with the representative from Tanzania crowned the winner. Ecuadorian contestant Shyare Andrade finished as the first runner-up. Throughout the competition, Andrade achieved several milestones, including winning the ‘Country’s Power of the Year’ title through digital voting and receiving the ‘Best Outfit of the Day’ award. Her national costume, designed by Steven Vera, was inspired by ‘Tsunki Nua’, a water and river deity from Shuar mythology.

Following her success, the 23-year-old law student returned to Ecuador on October 14. Upon her arrival at the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil, she was met by a large crowd of supporters, family, and fans. The intense emotions and the size of the crowd caused Andrade to nearly faint, which prevented her from performing a planned catwalk. Due to requests from airport staff to clear the way for other passengers, she was unable to stay long at the terminal and did not notice the mariachis brought to celebrate her homecoming.

During a press conference in Guayaquil, Andrade addressed social media speculation regarding her travel expenses. She clarified that she faced unexpected costs for additional luggage, which she covered using part of her prize money, noting difficulties using her credit card in Thailand and the necessity of exchanging currency to baht. The Concurso Nacional de Belleza (CNB) confirmed they will reimburse her for these extra costs.

In her home province of Manabí, celebrations continued with a large caravan organized in Portoviejo. Despite heavy rain, crowds gathered along the Portoviejo-Crucita road to participate in a motorcade through the city streets to honor her achievements.
