Missing persons reports and homicide investigation in Mexico

Overview

Authorities in various Mexican states have issued alerts and search notices for missing individuals, including minors.

In Veracruz, the State Attorney General's Office began searching for two siblings from Mexico City, aged 4 and 6, who went missing in Orizaba. In Quintana Roo, search notices were issued for two adults in the Felipe Carrillo Puerto municipality. Subsequent reports indicated an Amber Alert was issued in the State of Mexico for a 14-year-old girl reported missing from Cuautitlán Izcalli.

In Chiapas, the disappearance of 12-year-old Ariana Scarlett Velázquez Cruz and her 55-year-old grandmother, Miriam Cruz Alpuche, has resulted in a double homicide investigation. The two had been missing since October 19, when they left their home to check on livestock in the Ribera Tanchichal area of Ostuacán.

The grandmother’s body was discovered on October 21 near a stream, wrapped in black bags and a tarp with signs of violence. Following this discovery, search operations were intensified using drones, a helicopter, and canine units, including search dogs Nazca and Tornado. On October 23, the girl’s body was found in a pasture in the Ribera Tanchichal area.

While the bodies were found near each other, authorities have not yet publicly specified the exact causes of death or confirmed if the deaths are officially linked. Local feminist collectives, such as 50más 1, have expressed outrage and demanded an exhaustive investigation, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding violence against women and minors in rural Chiapas.
