Overview

In early July 2026, MLB previews highlighted National League West matchups involving the San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres. On July 5, the Giants were scheduled to face the Rockies at Coors Field, while the Dodgers were set to host the Padres at Dodger Stadium.

On July 6, the Dodgers began a three-game series against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium. To bolster their roster while maintaining a 14-game lead in the NL West, the Dodgers activated reliever Evan Phillips from the 60-day injured list following a 13-month recovery from Tommy John surgery. To accommodate Phillips, the team added right-hander Carlos Duran to the 40-man roster, designated left-hander Jake Eder for release, designated catcher Chuckie Robinson for assignment, and optioned Paul Gervase to Triple-A.

On July 20, the Dodgers acquired right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen from the Rockies in exchange for minor-league pitcher Nick Frasso and outfielder Landyn Vidourek. Halvorsen, who was recovering from right-shoulder inflammation, was intended to provide high-velocity depth to a bullpen that ranked seventh in the league in ERA.

By August 10, the Dodgers recalled Halvorsen to the major league roster following a scoreless rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City. His promotion, along with the addition of left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes, was intended to address bullpen health issues involving players such as Will Klein, Brock Stewart, and Blake Treinen. To facilitate these moves, the Dodgers optioned Kyle Hurt to the minors and designated Jonathan Hernandez for assignment.
