Moldovan airport administration and restructuring
Overview
The Moldovan government has confirmed that the privatization of Chișinău International Airport is not currently on its agenda, with Minister Vladimir Bolea stating the facility will remain under state administration. Following a profitable 2025, authorities have been working to finalize the absorption of Mărculești International Airport by the Chișinău airport, including the transfer of land.
However, the management of Mărculești International Airport has come under scrutiny. A parliamentary inquiry commission addressed reports that the airport has been managed by an interim administrator for nearly three years, exceeding the one-year legal limit for such appointments. While the Public Property Agency (APP) attributed delays to legislative changes and asset inventories, commission president Dinu Plîngău argued that the law mandates a competitive selection process. The APP has since committed to organizing a contest for the administrator position.
