Moldovan military deployment and recruitment

Overview

The Moldovan National Army has engaged in both international peacekeeping and domestic military expansion efforts. In mid-October 2026, 18 soldiers departed for a six-month peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina to conduct patrols and ensure safety within a designated area of responsibility.

Following the initial drafting of recruitment plans, the Moldovan government has officially approved the incorporation of more than 1,200 young people into the National Army between October 2026 and January 2027. Most recruits will undergo standard 12-month military service, while ten individuals are designated for a three-month reduced-term service. The Ministry of Defense has also proposed a new service option consisting of six weeks of military training.

In late October 2026, the Ministry of Defense began developing a draft law that could require men who have not previously undergone military service to complete basic training courses. This proposed training would last a maximum of 42 days and be structured in multiple stages to allow participants to continue their professional activities or studies.

Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi clarified that the initiative does not involve a simultaneous call-up of all men aged 18 to 60, noting that implementation will be gradual based on financial resources and organizational capacity. The Ministry intends to allocate specific funds for this program in the 2027 budget. The draft law is currently under review and will proceed to the Government and Parliament for two readings following ministerial approvals.
