Molière's The Imaginary Invalid in Europe

In summer 2026, the classic French comedy was staged in multiple European venues. The Lucernaire theatre in Paris opened a new adaptation of Molière’s *Le Malade Imaginaire* that ran from early June to the end of August, featuring a small cast of four actors alternating all roles.

At the same time, Greek productions brought the play to the ancient stage. A performance titled Κατά Φαντασίαν Ασθενής was presented at the municipal theatre of Volos on 30 July, and again at the 55th Olympus Festival in the ancient theatre of Dio on 29 July, with Vlamidimos Kyriaidis in the lead.

Later in the season, the open‑air Alseos Theatre (ΔΕΗ) extended its summer programme to include a fresh Greek adaptation of *Le Malade Imaginaire*. Starring Vlamís Kyria‑kídis as Argan, the production ran from late August into early October, accompanied by contemporary staging, costumes and lighting, and formed part of an expanded lineup that also featured a musical comedy.

Together, these events illustrate a coordinated effort to revive Molière’s satire across both French and Greek stages during the 2026 summer festival circuit.
