Molise regional healthcare system status

The status of the public healthcare system in Italy’s Molise region has been subject to conflicting reports regarding its recovery and management.

Initially, the National Autonomous Doctors' Union (Snami) reported signs of improvement, noting that a high percentage of first-visit appointments and diagnostic services were being delivered within legal time limits. Snami highlighted the completion of home-care coverage and the implementation of a new regional agreement designed to reorganize primary care through multi-professional teams and Community Houses.

However, subsequent reports from regional officials and ministerial monitoring suggest significant management failures. Criticisms have been leveled against the commissioner structure for failing to meet deadlines, specifically regarding the Stroke Network. Delays in activating neuroradiology and recruiting specialized staff at the Cardarelli hospital in Campobasso may extend into 2027 or 2028. Furthermore, the Ministry has raised concerns regarding patient access to the Neuromed facility, noting that no patients have accessed the center autonomously in the last ten months due to the lack of a functioning emergency room.
