Monaco telecommunications security and numbering updates

Overview

Monaco is implementing changes to its telecommunications infrastructure and security measures to enhance digital sovereignty and protect residents.

In late September 2026, it was announced that starting October 1, 2026, the Principality would transition to an exclusively Monegasque mobile numbering system using the +377 international dialing code. This move ends the historical link to the French numbering system, where mobile numbers began with 06. While existing customers will retain their current numbers, all new individual and business subscribers will receive eight-digit numbers under the +377 prefix. This transition is intended to strengthen electronic communication security by combating number spoofing and telephone fraud.

Following this, the Government of Monaco and Monaco Telecom launched a joint initiative to combat automated telemarketing, nuisance calls, and phone scams. Authorities are recommending the use of free applications, Saracroche and Blocall, which utilize community reporting to identify and block fraudulent numbers and SMS messages. To assist residents with these digital security tools, the Maison du Numérique is providing technical support through workshops and individual guidance.
